  1. When you are in a really tight space a cheap ratchet won’t take the bolt off but a more expensive one with more teeth will spin the nut more and take it off

  2. One thing I have found that is worth paying snap on prices for is adjustable wrenches. I grew up using snap on tools in a aviation shop that supplied tool boxes for us to signs out and use and they were nice but when I moved to places I had to buy my own tools I absolutely did not pay snap on prices and don’t miss them at all. High end harbor freight icon are plenty good for me I save money to spend on my kids and hobbies instead of the tool truck

  3. Ive been in 3 different lines of work that require tools and in my experience there’s no such thing as having all the tools you need. You just make due with what you have.

  4. Tip, don’t skimp on lightning. Don’t buy flashlights from any of the tool companies you recognize, they’re all junk. Go with pocket flashlights from a specialized flashlight manufacturer with a high cri, clean beam, and multiple brightness settings. Being able to see accurate colors clearly and at low intensity can make a world of difference in diagnostics

  5. Getting a mini Milwaukee drill and impact WITH both batteries for less than $200 is so laughable that it’s not even funny. The only way you’re getting those two tools that cheap is if they’re heavily used and lived through multiple years of service.

  6. A couple things as a HVAC contractor I use unibits everyday and the cheap ones from harbor freight or Amazon are trash compared to a Klein or Milwaukee so if you plan on drilling a lot of holes with it spend the money on a good one! Also I have pretty much all the Milwaukee cordless impact wrenches and ratchets they are nice but I stock my service trucks with Ridgid cordless tools if you register them they have a lifetime warranty on the tools and batteries! And the 1/2” and 3/8” impacts have plenty of power and when you consider a 12 amp hour battery is 250 bucks it’s nice to only have to buy them once.

  7. Racheting wrenches are certainly not a "must have" tool as you make it seem. Sure they are nicer than regular wrenches if you have the budget for them, but not must have.

  8. Thanks. Very informative and great presentation, you deserve the view counts and hope you’re making a few quid from helping others.

  9. If you are just a weekend warrior like me and it is not your actual livelihood, I suggest a good fridge. Nothing worse then when you need a cold beer and you reach in only to find warm cans

  10. For Subarus I use a 1/4 flex extension from Menards when taking off drain plugs, you can use them on Hondas and Toyotas too, keeps you clean when your changing oils

  11. Great video! I realize this was made 4 years ago… but it’s funny that you mention “if Milwaukee made this wrench in a flex it would be best in the world….” Well, now they make it:) hahaha. I just bought a set today actually so it’s funny to come across this today 🙂

  12. I find those M12 ratchets are the very first thing I reach for when I pop the hood on any of my vehicles. So much so, that my regular ratchet only gets brought out if I’m nervous I could damage the M12.

  13. 1/4” for interior
3/8” for exterior except big stuff or diesels. Then 1/2” & 3/4”

Breaker bar sounds great right until the point where you need a different angle due to clearance reasons but also need a bunch of leverage.

  14. Ace hardware on sale section for the Allen wrenches full metric and standard set that fold together super tight fit easy to pull out $5.99 had me the best set of Allen’s I’ve ever gotten never had 1 round and easy to keep up with if you just put one back when you get another

  15. My dads a mechanic & a welder so when I need something fixed on my car/cars I ask him then I go with him & learn how to do it probably gonna go back to school with a major in automotive mechanics & audio production/engineering so I can work on cars for my 9-5 or whatever my shift is & do my music in my free time

  16. Good advice tbh especially my 1st time being a mobile mechanic doing the basics not too much but just knowing the basics on cars

  17. After wrenching for awhile I have yet to find a set of pliers that even compare to the Snap on PL347ACF set it’s alittle more then the Knipex but worth every penny and for a solid hammer that’s never going to break anything in the Mac tools anti vibe series they have a nearly all steel frame and head I’ll be dead before I ever have to buy another hammer. Milwaukee also made a flex head version to thos wrench’s.

  18. This is some great advice, but from someone who has obviously never used a lot of good tools…

Expensive ratchets and sockets do matter. You’ll round a lot less heads with good sockets. That ratchet he demonstrates is not a "fine" tooth. (Have a go with a dual 80 Snap-on for instance…) The lack of lash on an expensive ratchet is worth the money…

Expensive torque wrenches WILL be more accurate.

Spanners/wrenches have the same thing with tooth count and lash, strength of the open end and their ability to bite (flank drive for example). You need solid ring spanners too.

Pliers was good advice. Knipex/Snap-on. Good snap ring pliers will last longer and the tips wont snap off/bend.

Good screwdrivers matter and so do the right ones. Posi (not so much in automotive)/Phillips/flat/and JIS. He mentions Jap cars, that’s because their screw heads are Japanese industrial standard (JIS), not Phillips… Makes a huge difference!

"Torx" bits is the same as sockets. Less stripping and breakages. (Mac RBRT stuff is amazing!)

Buy/use the right hammer for the job. There’s a reason there are so many variations… Expensive last longer.

Buy seal picks for seals and a set of dental pics.

I don’t use a lot of power tools (I’m old school). But the experience I’ve had with them, the more expensive are way more powerful and they take the abuse.

Good crimpers crimp tighter. Auto strippers are mostly the same. I’ve had expensive and cheap and there’s not that much difference. Multi-meters is a mine field, go with Fluke if you can afford it.

Expensive drill bits are a must.

    Power probe… YES!

Callipers are obviously better and more accurate the more you spend.

All in all, you generally get what you pay for… Buy the best you can afford. Buy cheap starting out, when you break it, replace it with the more expensive version.

Added bonus, Proper branded tools have lifetime warranty..! Hence the price.

Just my 2 cents from 20 years of experience, on the tools he mentions in this video.

  19. This is by far the most comprehensive and informative video out there in the internet world that is dead right on. It’s excellent and I’ve seen it several times it’s so good. I like the fact that Taylor seems so humble also. Thank you taking the time to create it and share it. God bless.
