  1. I’m currently building cabinets with only a circular saw and trimmer. Oh man! I’m struggling to keep things straight and square. Not even talking about repetitive cuts. My next buy would definitely be a table saw.

  2. Excellent advice. And nice confirmation of my purchases so far. I’ve built a nice redwood deck with steps, and other projects so far. You’ve confirmed that my next purchase should be a table saw. And your advice on drill + impact driver is spot on! 👍

  3. Whole heartily agree with your list. You really don’t need a bunch of fancy high end tools. On a budget you might throw in a Radial Arm saw you can get those really cheap on Market place. They usually are under a $100 bucks for a good older lightly used one. My Dad built an entire kitchen cabinet set with a Radial Arm saw over 50 years ago. You can even get shaper heads. They seam to have come out of fashion like dado blades. LOL I used one for 40 years before buying a cheap chop saw for easy portability on job site when building my house. Thanks love your vids.

  4. The only thing I would disagree with is the miter saw. spend the extra $75-$100 and get the sliding miter saw. I started with a standard 10" miter saw and quickly realized that I was limited with what I could do. So then I was staring at my brand new miter saw think, well now I have to spend 3x more than what I planed and get a table saw also. My opinion is to spend the little extra to get the sliding miter saw.

  5. To add to the table saw, I bought a $270 ryobi table saw and only after a few months felt I made bad purchase because all the jigs and sleds I wanted to make require 2 miter channels. My table saw only has 1. I could, if I wanted, disassemble the cord holder, but it’s something that might make it easier on beginners if they know having 2 miter channels is better than 1. You don’t know what you don’t know.

  6. No PPE comments for the power tools? If you don’t have a budget for PPE you don’t have a budget for power tools.

  7. I did woodwork for the first 18 months wiht nothing but a saw and a drill and a sander. You can get your lumber merchant to do a lot of the cutting for you.

  8. Hi Steve, yeah I’m just starting out, well a novice. If I buy these 7 tools that’s closing on $1000. Got only a Skill an jig. Might try another hobby. Thanks any way.

  9. wish I had seen this video before buying my kit. Have recently taken up woodworking really enjoying it but I have wasted a lot of money already. I bought a mitre saw (December) and it was the sliding type which I don’t need. I bought a cheaper one and it is difficult to get square and have had to build a sacrificial fence and still struggle. then I bought a table saw (January) it has the worlds worst ripping fence and the mitre is a joke (its an Einhell 2025/2 or something) the groves for the mitre are not standard so had a nightmare building a cross cut sled trying to get the runners the right size etc. If I had watch your video first I could have saved money and bought the right products first. by the way love all your videos need to spend more time researching before buying and watching before trying LOL

  10. Hi Steve I’m just getting in too wood working and I wanted to make toys out of wood what would be better and easier jig saw or band saw

  11. 3yrs later i have all these tools except the table saw. All thanks to this video, I’ve made numerous pieces of furniture for my wife, kids and relatives

  12. I grew up with my stepfather. He had a radial arm saw, and never had the need for a table saw. Circular saw, jigsaw and orbital sanders.

  13. one tool i would add on is a multi tool. can be used for so much with wood working and other projects around the house

  14. Miter Saw, Circular Saw, Table Saw, Jigsaw, Impact Drill, Random Orbital Sander…
*Counts on fingers…. Looks at Title*
    Wait, are we missing one?

  15. miter saw really? for a hobbyist? not essential unless you do lots of cuts everyday on thick lumber, which make you a professional not hobbyist, jigsaw or even handsaw will do the job very well

  16. I am considering buying a table saw or a miter saw. Currently have a circular and a jigsaw…Can a table saw do everything a miter saw can do?

  17. Over 40 years ago I built a set of bookshelves using a circular saw, router, and sander. They are still in use today in my home office.

Today I have a table saw, compound miter saw, small router table with removable router, jig saw, random orbital sander, drill, and impact driver. I’m probably going to get the Kreg pocket hole kit. I also bought an economical band saw, and drill press, which are still in their boxes. 🙂 They were impulse buys because they were marked way down to crazy low prices, but to be honest, I have never needed them. I use the miter saw, table saw, jig saw, and router for almost everything I build.

  18. I’ve been woodworking for a year now without a tablesaw, mitre saw, or random orbit sander.
Sometimes it’s a bit tricky to figure out how to do a specific cut with the tools I have, but I usually find a way!
Bandsaw works well for compound mitres, and many other cuts can be made with a circular saw and a homemade jig

  19. Awesome videos. So nice to watch something clear and straightforward without loads of noise – straight to the point and easy to follow. Many thanks!

  20. I would not list a miter saw as an essential tool. Between my circular saw (to crosscut long boards to rough length) , table saw and a cross cut sled, I haven’t plugged in my miter saw in more than 10 years.

  21. Steve, Im just starting up with the wood work and the sole purpose is making toys for my little nugget. I’m starting with easy to build vehicles. Between band saw and scroll saw what would be your advice?

  22. 0:20 exactly! I’m dealing with 4 square meters aka ca 7×7 feet max for wood working and time constraints due to family obligations…

  23. Mr Ramsey
Would you please recommend a cheap brand of a tablesaw for me I would like to buy one for my retired brother who worked as a carpenter in the air force

  24. I would add, don’t cheap out on a jigsaw! I started with the harbor freight drill master jigsaw and it’s worthless!

  25. I think I’m gonna have to find some of those hand tool videos, no way do I have the money or space for all of these tools. Pretty much need to factor in the hidden cost of a house with a garage or shed.
